Experts come together at CSIBER's National Seminar on Social Media and Mental Health

A National Seminar on Social Media and Mental Health was held at CSIBER Kolhapur on September 24, 2022. Chief Guest, Mr. Prakash Kamat, senior journalist along with Dr. S.P. Rath, Director, CSIBER inaugurated the program by watering the plants. Further in the program, Mr. Sachin Jagtap's melodic flute rendition of the Ganesh Vandana set the tone for the day. Students from the Masters of Social Work (MSW) Program then engaged in a thought-provoking street play. A poster exhibition was inaugurated thereafter by the esteemed guests.

The Head of the Department of Social Work and Joint Coordinator, Dr. D.M. Bhosale, welcomed the Chief Guests and outlined the seminar's goals and schedule. In his keynote address, Mr. Prakash Kamat shared fascinating observations on social media's effects on mental health through personal anecdotes. His focus was on the influence that social media has on people's daily lives and its impact on mental well-being.

The comprehensive seminar covered various themes such as Social Media Addiction, Vulnerable Groups & Social Media, Role of Social Media in Social Development, World Without Social Media, and Impact of Social Media on Relationships. Social Media's Relation with Senior Citizens, Social Media & Education, Social Media & Cyber Crime, Social Media & Youth, and Social Media & Anti-Social Behavior were also discussed thoroughly during the program.

Dr. T.V.G. Sarma (IQAC Convener, CSIBER) gave a briefing on the achievements and milestones of CSIBER during the tear. While, Ms. Komal Patil (PSI, Cybercrime, Kolhapur) spoke on the rise of cybercrime as a result of social media and its implications on the society. She also revealed intriguing cybercrime cases linked to social media. The vote of gratitude was given by Ms. Urmila Chavan, Assistant Professor and Co-Convener, to wrap the inauguration session.

Following lunch, the afternoon session started off with 22 fascinating paper presentations chaired by Dr. T.V.G. Sarma, Dr. S.P. Rajput, Dr. S.S. Apate, and Dr. K.N. Ranbhare where they shared critical views with faculty members and students. This session covered subjects including cyberbullying among school children and the effects of social media on education. Speakers at the occasion captivated the audience with talks on utilizing social media for growth and investigating the link between social media and crime. Keynote addresses from resource persons, Dr. Rakesh Mudgal, VC, D.Y. Patil University and Dr. B. M. Hirdekar, Former Exam Controller, Shivaji University, Kolhapur discussed in detail, the use of social media for the development, correlation between social media and crime. Mr. Sachin Jagtap's mesmerising flute performance set to the music of Sharada Vandan marked the end of the day-long session.

Dr. T V G Sarma IQAC Coordinator, Dr. D.M. Bhosale, Head Dept of Social Work, and Ms. Urmila Chavan, Co-Convener graced the valedictory session and handed over the certificates to the delegates. Dr. D. M. Bhosale summed up the one-day seminar in a critical analysis and left the audience with thoughts to deliberate upon. The participants shared their views and gave their feedback, and Dr. K.N. Ranbhare proposed the Vote of Thanks. The one-day National Seminar was successful with joint efforts of teaching and non-teaching staff. The attendees received certificates and provided their valuable feedback.
